Transport and transit to Cambodia

We move cargo to Cambodia two ways: from your warehouse in Vietnam, or from China in transit through Vietnam and on into Cambodia. We also take the return direction, from Cambodia back to Vietnam.

One point of contact handles the whole route, customs formalities at each border included. You do not need to find a second partner at the Cambodian end.

How long it takes from where your cargo is

Counted from the departure warehouse to the consignee’s warehouse in Cambodia, in business days.

Departure warehouseFull container or dedicated truckConsolidated cargo
Ho Chi Minh City area2 – 3 days3 – 5 days
Northern Vietnam4 – 5 days5 – 7 days
Warehouse in China6 – 7 days7 – 9 days

Consolidated cargo takes longer because it waits for a full load. If you are in a hurry and do not have enough volume for a container, booking a dedicated truck gets you the times in the middle column.

Which border crossing your cargo enters Vietnam through

Not every crossing can handle transit cargo. Many companies only find this out once the goods have already arrived at the border.

Border crossing pairTypeTransit cargoImport cargo
Mong Cai (Quang Ninh) – Dongxing (Guangxi)InternationalYesYes
Huu Nghi (Lang Son) – Youyiguan, Friendship Pass (Guangxi)InternationalYesYes
Chi Ma (Lang Son) – Aidian (Guangxi)BilateralNoYes

Cargo bound for Cambodia in transit therefore enters Vietnam only through Mong Cai or Huu Nghi. We have offices at all three crossings above, and the way each one works is different.

Through Mong Cai: loaded at our warehouse in Dongxing

We run a warehouse in Dongxing, Guangxi, directly opposite the Mong Cai crossing. Your cargo is loaded into the container at that warehouse, the truck then enters Vietnam and runs the whole Vietnamese leg as transit cargo before crossing into Cambodia.

Our own people run that warehouse. When the cargo arrives, when it is loaded, when the truck leaves: we can see it and answer you directly, without going through an intermediary.

Through Huu Nghi: transferred in the border truck yard

At Huu Nghi we do not have a warehouse on the Chinese side, and the crossing operates under different rules. The sequence is:

  1. The Chinese truck enters Vietnam
  2. Our staff complete the entry formalities for the vehicle and guide the Chinese driver to the assigned position in the border truck yard
  3. We register and complete the customs formalities
  4. The cargo is transferred from the Chinese truck onto a Vietnamese truck
  5. Once cleared, the Vietnamese truck runs in transit to Cambodia, or heads to our sorting warehouse in Bac Ninh if the cargo is being imported into Vietnam

All five steps are carried out by our own people present at the crossing. The Chinese driver does not have to work out formalities and yard rules alone in a country whose language he does not speak.

Three crossings into Cambodia

  • Moc Bai (Tay Ninh) – Bavet (Svay Rieng)
  • Binh Hiep (Tay Ninh, formerly Long An) – Prey Vor (Svay Rieng)
  • Tinh Bien (An Giang) – Phnom Den (Takeo)

Having three crossings available means that when one is congested, your cargo moves to another instead of sitting in a queue. We tell you when a reroute is needed, along with the difference in transit time.

Two regimes, handled differently

Ordinary export and import: goods exported from Vietnam to Cambodia, or imported from Cambodia into Vietnam. The declaration is filed in your company’s name and you keep control of the shipment. As a customs broker recognised by Vietnam Customs, we handle the formalities at the border on your behalf.

Transit: goods travelling from China across Vietnamese territory into Cambodia, with no import formalities in Vietnam. Under this regime, we file the entire transit procedure across Vietnam in our own name, acting as the transport agent. You do not have to prepare any Vietnamese paperwork at all.

The two regimes differ in documents, in who files the declaration, and in how duties are assessed. Send us the shipment details and we determine the right regime before quoting.

What you need to prepare

Goods exported from Vietnam to Cambodia

  1. Commercial invoice
  2. Packing list
  3. The cleared export declaration. We offer export customs declaration as a service if you need it
  4. Letter of introduction
  5. Contact person for the importer in Cambodia
  6. Contact person for the shipper in Vietnam

Goods in transit from China through Vietnam to Cambodia

You provide exactly what an ordinary export from China requires:

  1. Commercial invoice
  2. Packing list
  3. The product details required for the declaration
  4. Authorisation for us to file the export declaration, signed once through the China Customs system. No need to repeat it for later shipments
  5. Contact person for the importer in Cambodia

You do not have to prepare a letter of introduction or a Vietnamese export declaration. All transit paperwork and formalities across Vietnamese territory are filed by us.

Import formalities in Cambodia

We contact the importer in Cambodia directly and work with them on the import clearance at that end. You do not have to find a customs broker in Cambodia yourself, and you are not stuck relaying messages between two parties.

That is why the contact person for the importer in Cambodia matters more than anything else on the list above. Without a contact at that end, the truck arrives and there is nobody to complete the receiving formalities.

What we carry most on this route

Fabrics are what we carry most, mostly rolls packed in woven bags. After fabrics come garment trims and accessories, since a sewing line needs a great deal beyond fabric, and footwear materials and components. These three match the two industries Cambodia manufactures at scale.

Garments and factory machinery and production supplies are also regular cargo for us.

We know how these categories are declared, what documents they need, and which problems typically come up with them.

Why we can run the whole three country route

Luchi International Logistics has its own legal entity in each of the three countries on the route:

  • China: Nanjing Luchi International Logistics Co., Ltd.
  • Vietnam: Giang To Vien Duong International Transport Co., Ltd. (Luchi Vietnam)
  • Cambodia: Luchi International Logistics Cambodia Co., Ltd.

Which means your cargo is not handed over to an unfamiliar partner at the border. At the Cambodian end it is still someone from within the group who receives it.

In Vietnam we are a customs broker recognised by Vietnam Customs (now the Customs Department under the Ministry of Finance) under Decision No. 2673/QĐ-TCHQ dated 3 November 2023.

The office handling the Cambodia route

The Cambodia route is handled by our office in Ho Chi Minh City:

Ho Chi Minh City office (Luchi Vietnam): Số 15A Cư Xá, Xã Bà Điểm, Thành phố Hồ Chí Minh

You can come and meet the person in charge, and you can send goods or documents to this address. Our own staff work there and can assist you on site.
